If your pigeon is a homing pigeon, there’s a good chance it might return. Homing pigeons have a remarkable ability to navigate back to their home base, thanks to a combination of magnetoreception (detecting Earth’s magnetic fields), visual cues, and possibly even scent. If it’s well-bonded to you and familiar with its surroundings, it may try to find its way back once it feels safe.
However, regular pigeons might struggle more if they haven’t been trained to return to a specific location. Make sure to leave food and water out to encourage its return and check nearby areas, as pigeons often don’t travel too far right away. With a little patience, there’s a good chance it will find its way home.
