Two Missing Tourists Found Dead in San Juan Mountains
In a tragic development, two tourists who went missing in the rugged San Juan Mountains of Colorado were found dead earlier today. The pair, identified as a couple from Canada, had been reported missing after they failed to return from a hiking expedition last week.
The couple, both in their early 30s, set out for a scenic hike in the remote area on November 9 but lost contact with family and friends when they failed to check in as planned. A search operation was launched shortly thereafter, involving local rescue teams and the U.S. Forest Service.
After days of intensive searching, their bodies were discovered near a steep cliffside, approximately 15 miles from the nearest trailhead. Authorities believe the couple may have become disoriented due to sudden weather changes, including heavy snowfall that blanketed the area during the search. While the official cause of death has not yet been determined, hypothermia is suspected to have played a role.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of hikers in the San Juan Mountains, a popular but treacherous destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The local sheriff’s department is urging hikers to exercise caution, be well-prepared, and adhere to safety guidelines when exploring the area.
A memorial for the couple is being planned in their home city of Toronto, where family and friends have expressed their shock and heartbreak over the loss.
