NASCAR champion Martin Truex Jr., and his brother and fellow driver Ryan Truex, announced that their father, Martin Truex Sr., has died.

We are devastated by the loss of our father,” the brothers said in a statement. “Simply put, he was our hero and a great man. We appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers and ask for privacy at this time.”

The heartbreaking news brought prayers and well-wishes from fans and fellow drivers.

Truex Jr., who retired from full-time racing at the end of last season, has announced that he will drive in next month’s Daytona 500.
